Privacy Policy
DopCasts is a podcast app made by Kedar Joshi, an individual developer based in Washington, United States ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information we handle when you use the DopCasts app or contact us, why, and the choices you have.
Questions or requests about your privacy: privacy@dopcasts.app.
Information we handle
Account information
When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive an account identifier and the details your sign-in provider shares, such as your email address and name. Apple may give us a private relay address instead of your real email. We never receive your Apple or Google password.
Your activity and preferences
We store the shows you follow, the interests you choose, items you save, the episodes you open for insights and your app settings, so your account works across devices. Your listening position, playback settings and downloaded episodes are stored on your device.
Questions you ask
If you ask questions about an episode, we process your question and the relevant parts of the episode to generate an answer. Earlier messages in the same conversation may be included for context, and your conversations are saved to your account. Please don't include sensitive information about yourself or others in a question.
Usage analytics (optional, off by default)
If you turn on Share usage analytics in Profile → Account, we collect how you use the app, such as screens opened and features used, along with your app version and device platform, linked to your account. Turning it off stops this collection.
Crash reports
When the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a crash report: the error, your device model, operating system and app version. Crash reports are anonymous unless you have turned on usage analytics, in which case they are linked to your account.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your device so we can tell you when an episode is ready or when shows you follow publish new episodes.
Reports and messages to us
If you report an AI answer, we receive the answer, your question, your account identifier and the episode, so we can review it. If you email us, we receive your message and email address.
Technical information
Like any online service, our servers and providers receive technical information such as your IP address when your device connects, and keep operational logs for a limited period to keep the service running, secure and free of abuse.
How we use information
We use information to sign you in, play and recommend podcasts, save your choices, generate episode insights and answers, send notifications you asked for, fix problems, improve the app, respond to you, and protect the service from abuse.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or track you across other companies' apps and websites. DopCasts shows no ads of its own. Podcasts themselves may contain ads placed by their publishers.
AI processing
DopCasts uses AI to create episode insights and to answer questions:
- Deepgram transcribes podcast audio.
- OpenAI and DeepInfra generate episode insights from public podcast transcripts.
- DeepInfra answers your questions, and finds the relevant passages of an episode to answer them. Your question, any earlier messages in that conversation, and the relevant podcast text are sent from our servers to DeepInfra.
Before you ask your first question, the app asks your permission to share this information with DeepInfra. You can withdraw permission for future questions at any time under AI questions in Profile → Account. Withdrawing doesn't delete saved conversations or recall information already sent.
AI-generated content can be wrong or incomplete. Check important claims against the episode, and don't rely on it as professional advice.
Who receives information
We use service providers to run DopCasts. Each receives only what it needs for its part of the service:
- Supabase: sign-in, database and server functions.
- Amazon Web Services: processing and storing podcast audio clips.
- Deepgram, OpenAI and DeepInfra: AI processing, as described above.
- PostHog (hosted in the European Union): crash reports and optional usage analytics.
- Expo, Apple and Google: delivering push notifications.
- Apple and Google: sign-in, under their own privacy policies.
Podcast audio, artwork and details come from podcast publishers and their hosting providers, Apple, Google Books and The Movie Database. Host photos come from Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. When the app loads audio or images, those services receive your IP address and the request, and podcast hosts may use their own measurement systems. Their own policies apply.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the service.
How long we keep information
- Account information, follows, saved items and conversations: while you have an account.
- Reports you submit: deleted after 90 days.
- Usage analytics and crash reports: up to one year.
- Operational logs: a limited period, then deleted automatically.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app under Profile → Account → Delete account. This deletes your account immediately, along with your follows, saved items, conversations, preferences and history. If you can't use the app, email privacy@dopcasts.app from the email address on your account; see Delete your account.
All your personal data, including usage analytics, is deleted within 30 days of your request. Copies in our backups expire within a further 30 days. Downloaded episodes stay on a device until you remove the app or the downloads from that device.
Episode insights are generated from public podcasts and shared by all listeners, so they stay in DopCasts after you delete your account. They are not linked to you.
Your choices and rights
- Change your follows, interests and saved items in the app.
- Turn usage analytics and AI questions on or off in Profile → Account.
- Manage notifications in your device settings.
- Delete your account at any time, as described above.
To ask for a copy of your personal information, or to correct or delete it, email privacy@dopcasts.app. We may need to confirm you own the account before acting. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law.
Security and where data is processed
Connections between the app and our servers are encrypted, and access to our systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. DopCasts and most of its providers operate in the United States; PostHog stores crash reports and analytics in the European Union.
Children
DopCasts is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above. If a change is significant, we'll give notice in the app or by email before it takes effect.
